LRO datasets released to Planetary Data System

First "Image of The Week" from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA). Most of the teams and their experiments in lunar orbit on NASA's LRO are due reporting in with data from the first half of the first year of the sophisticated lunar survey. Data is being posted to the Planetary Data System (PDS) and Goddard Space Flight Center promises the full image above is the first of a weekly series premiering with this first public release of data. "Topography data from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter reveal a violent impact history on the far side of the Moon. Scientists are using LOLA data to identify and map the distribution of impact craters and basins on the lunar surface, which in turn reveals information about the age of the lunar crust and early bombardment of the Solar System."
