A Chinese immigrant has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for illegally assisting the Chinese government with its human spaceflight program over a four-year period, the Justice Department announced today.

Physicist Shu Quan-Sheng (Shu), 68, of Newport News, Virginia, was sentenced by Judge Henry C. Morgan, Jr. in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division. Shu — a Chinese native and naturalized American citizen — has already forfeited $386,740 to the federal government in connection with the case.

Shu provided assistance to the Chinese government in planning a new launch facility in Hainan Province that is designed to launch human missions and space stations.
