NASA Lunar Science Institute is beginning a virtual seminar series, open to all interested in lunar science. The first of its Fall 2009 Director's Virtual Seminar Series is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 9 am PDT (1500 UT).
The inaugural speaker for this seminar series will be Dr. Hal Levison, a member of the NLSI team from the Southwest Research Institute. Dr. Levison will be speaking on different models of how the early solar system might have evolved. He will in particular discuss the Nice model of solar system evolution, with an emphasis on how our Moon provides evidence.
Dr. Hal Levison is a planetary scientist with the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, CO. His work focuses on the long-term behavior of the solar system bodies and involves the development of large-scale numerical experiments. He is best known for his work on the early dynamical evolution of the outer Solar System and is an author of the most comprehensive model to date. Dr. Levison is also the co-author of SWIFT , which is a freely available software package for integrating orbits of solar system bodies.
