Falling toward a rare Full Moon at perigee

Julian Cooper offers this excellent view of the Waxing Crescent Moon (and morning at Mare Crisium and Mare Fecunditatis) on Tuesday evening, March 9, 2011. At the time the Moon was about 396,000 kilometers away, falling toward a historic apogee a few hours after the absolute Full "Wolf" Moon, the evening of March 19, 2011. At 355,000 kilometers, and concurrent with the Full Moon, this will be the Moon's closest approach in its orbit around Earth until 2016.
